Condemnation Erupts as Former President Trump's Post on Director Rob Reiner Ignites Fierce Criticism

Figures from both sides of the partisan divide and the Hollywood industry are uniting to censure Donald Trump for his comments in the wake of the shocking deaths of esteemed director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele.

A Controversial Social Media Post

After the couple were found deceased at their Brentwood residence, Trump posted on social media to describe the late director as "tortured and suffering". In a post, he asserted Reiner's death was "due to the anger he caused others through his enormous, relentless, and untreatable affliction with a debilitating disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME".

His comments quickly shifted to praising his own achievements, contrasting Reiner's supposed "intense obsession" and "obvious paranoia" with what Trump called the "Golden Age of America".

Police Update and Arrest

Authorities have since announced the arrest of the Reiners' adult son, Nick, on charges related to homicide in connection with the incident. Reports indicate his bond was established at a significant amount.

A Wave of Criticism from Celebrities and Politicians

The response to Trump's words was swift and harsh.

This is a appalling and despicable comment,” said public figure Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Media personality Whoopi Goldberg, who called Reiner a close acquaintance, also criticized the remarks. She referenced prior comments from Trump about the killing of an activist, asking, "Do you have no decency? Is it possible to get any lower?"

California's Governor, Gavin Newsom, simply wrote, "This is a disturbed man."

Mirroring this view, Congressman Maxwell Alejandro Frost said, "What a contemptible piece of garbage."

Senator Chris Murphy added, "He's just crossed a line. Now implying the Reiners brought on their own demise because they didn’t support him. So sick."

Criticism from Within Party

Some GOP elected officials also voiced disapproval.

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene stated that the situation was "a family tragedy, not about political feuds or rivals". She also alluded to challenges with addiction and mental health within families.

Fellow Republican congressman, Thomas Massie, labeled Trump's remarks "inappropriate and disgraceful" given the nature of the deaths. He publicly challenged members in his party to justify the statements.

Reiner's History and Stance on Trump

Rob Reiner was long a outspoken detractor of Donald Trump. In a past conversation, he argued Trump was "not psychologically suited" for the presidency. He had also cautioned about the risks of authoritarian rule should Trump return to power.

"We see autocracy on the rise around the world," Reiner noted. "Should the United States fall, there’s a risk that democratic systems crumble around the world."

Despite his pointed criticisms, Reiner had previously shown "absolute horror" and condemned violence for political ends unequivocally after the killing of another individual.

An Ironic Connection: The Art of the Deal

Adding a layer of past irony, Michele Reiner, previously Michele Singer, was the artist who captured the photograph for Donald Trump's 1987 book, The Art of the Deal.

Rob Reiner had previously recounted the anecdote of the session, noting Trump's request for "special hairspray" as being photographed on a skyscraper overlooking Central Park.
