Has Pizza Peaked? Domino's Pizza CEO Departs Following Shift Into Fried Chicken.

The head of Domino's Pizza Group who indicated the UK might have hit maximum pizza demand while expanding the franchise into chicken products has been ousted after disagreements with its governing body.

Leadership Transition

Andrew Rennie is departing after only 24 months in leadership, and will be succeeded on an temporary basis by the organization's chief operating officer, Frampton, while Domino's seeks a long-term chief.

Rennie, who was with the company for a substantial period, had attempted to redirect the UK's largest pizza delivery company towards chicken offerings, remarking recently there was not “significant expansion” left in the pizza sector in the UK. He observed poultry was the quickest rising menu item in the world.

Board Tensions

Reports indicate that there was disagreement between the CEO and the directors over his focus and management style, although Domino's release said he was leaving “through mutual consent”.

Recent Brand Introduction

In September, the chain introduced its chicken-focused brand – which Rennie referred to as a “significant new phase” for the group – and is trialling it in over 200 locations in the north-west of England and the province.

While the company is still going to roll it out across its extensive network in 2026 as scheduled, it views fried chicken as complementary to its core pizza business.

Leadership Comment

Bull, the Domino's chair, commented: “Directors think that there are a range of possibilities to enhance value and value creation in our primary operations. We are prioritizing finding the right chief executive to lead the careful implementation of that growth strategy.”

Market Difficulties

Recently, the pizza delivery giant, which has millions of users in the UK and Ireland, said orders dipped by one and a half percent in the latest quarter. In August, it warned that the food delivery sector had “become tougher” as it blamed weaker consumer confidence in the run-up to the budget and higher payroll outlays for weaker-than-expected sales and a significant fall in six-month income.

Competitors are also struggling. Another major chain revealed the closing of multiple locations a month ago, after the company behind its UK venues entered insolvency.

Health Efforts

Responding to consumer trends towards better nutrition, Domino's has introduced reduced-calorie products, such as its light base selection of pizzas below 400 calories as well as vegan and allergy-friendly options. A big pepperoni bake has 2,311 calories. A large cheese and tomato pizza has over 2,100, while a personal has under 1,000 calories.

Acting Leadership

The interim chief has been with the company since 2021, and had a background at the gaming group William Hill. It is thought that she does not want to assume the top job long-term.

Frampton stated: “We have a several active expansion and operational projects that we will be focused on implementing at speed.”

She added these involved ongoing development on the organization's procurement system and menu innovation, and its rewards program.

The pizza chain is also in need of a permanent CFO until the spring, when Andy Andrea joins from the drinks company a well-known firm. For now, Snow acts as temporary CFO.
